Final Draft Lipscomb Seminar, Sarah Blair, 10/11/12 Why Should Christians Watch "The Big Bang Theory"?

The Big Bang Theory is a comedy about adult nerds who are scientific prodigies. Something enviably goes wrong in every episode, or a dispute develops.

The Big Bang Theory’s core cast consists of five central characters. Sheldon Cooper, Leonard Hofstadter, Howard Wolowitz, Rajesh Koothrappali, and Penny are the main characters. The relationships and exchanges between these individuals helped this program earn an Emmy and a Golden Globe, as well as a weekly audience of 16 million people.

The first season aired in 2007, and the show has been renewed for seasons until 2014. Christians should watch the Big Bang Theory because of its huge fan base. It will help them comprehend particular social groupings via comedy and better grasp how Christians are regarded in the secular world. A Christian must see how outcasts are handled.

Sheldon, despite his eccentricities, is socially uncomfortable. People in Sheldon’s circle of friends are generally accepting, but the rest of the world seems to be at a loss for what to do with him.

Sheldon and his pals match the geek stereotype, and others frequently find it challenging to connect to them since they are so unlike the rest of the world. This show highlights the fact that various groups of people do not always get along. However, Christians should seek out relationships regardless of their social membership since Jesus commanded them to be all things to all people. Christians who only engage with individuals with whom they can easily communicate are avoiding what God has asked them to accomplish.

"Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, in order to win as many as possible," Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23. To win the Jews, I disguised myself as a Jew. I imitated people who were under the law to gain those who were under the law. To those who did not have the law,

I pretended to be one who did not have the direction to win those who did not have the law. I become weak to defeat the weak. I’ve tried to be everything to everyone in the hopes of saving some lives.

All of this is for the sake of the gospel so that I may participate in its benefits.

(Bible). Paul discusses becoming all things to all people in this passage. This is something that every Christian should read and use as an example of how they should conduct their lives. That is why The Big Bang Theory is a beautiful program to watch if you are a Christian.

The Big Bang Theory helps Christians understand geeky individuals and how to interact with them so that they may be "all things" to them when they meet someone who displays those personality characteristics. Each episode begins concerning evolution.

Whatever the case may be, the show’s overarching theme of evolution and unbelief in God is always present. Development is discussed in the context of scientific debates and the Big Bang Theory’s theme tune. Here are the lyrics to the Barenaked Ladies song "The Big Bang Theory." "Nearly fourteen billion years ago, our whole universe was in a hot, dense condition, and then expansion began. Wait...?

The autotrophs started to drool as the Earth started to chill. Neanderthals invented tools. We constructed a wall (the pyramids). Unravelling the secrets of math, science, and history

Everything began with a boom!" (Barenaked Ladies Lyrics) In the way the creators selected the theme tune, a Christian may perceive the clear message of evolution and the big bang idea. The show’s title, The Big Bang Theory, also has a precise scientific meaning.

The show’s title is intended to pique curiosity and draw attention to important topics. The program’s title, The Big Bang Hypothesis, piques attention since the big bang theory has become one of the most popular conceptions of creation.

The program’s title, The Big Bang Idea, refers to how the show promotes the theory of the big bang and the unbelief in God using any scientific techniques. Christians, on the whole, do not believe in evolution, particularly macroevolution. A fish developing into a terrestrial animal is an example of macroevolution.

Many Christians do not think this is possible, but they do believe in the concept of microevolution. The fact that there are so many different dog breeds demonstrates microevolution. Dogs come in a variety of sizes and characteristics, yet they are still called dogs.

This is the kind of evolution that is utilized to explain the variations in dog breed traits. Even Christians who believe in the big bang theory view God as the wellspring of life at the centre of it all. Christians, in general, do not believe in the most frequently used word, "evolution," which typically refers to macroevolution.

The program and its producers are pushing this whole concept of evolution on their audience. Another reason Christians should avoid watching this program because God created everything, and the show opposes this type of creation.

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth," the Bible states in Genesis 1:1. (Bible). The Bible claims that God, not evolution, created everything. Christians should think that God created the world if they believe in Him.

Star Trek, Star Wars, World of Warcraft, comic books, religion, relationships, and careers are just a handful of the numerous subjects this program draws laughter . Sheldon allows Amy Farrah Fowler, the lady he’s been dating, to date with another guy in one episode. Sheldon gets worried within a short period because of what he has just let happen.

Sheldon then proceeds to interrupt Amy’s movie date. Sheldon awkwardly puts himself between the pair and tells Amy that he wants their relationship to become formal and exclusive. Amy accepts, and Amy and Sheldon’s relationship becomes traditional and exclusive (CBS). The Big Bang Theory is based on this kind of humour. People often seek laughs in the wrong places. People’s behaviours in today’s society are directly related to their motivations. People tend to laugh at the expense of others.

Christians, on the other hand, believe that shaming another person is wrong. On the other hand, God has a sense of humour and desires that everyone is filled with pleasure and laughter. He wants a healthy supply of laughter. "Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with cries of joy,"

David wrote in Psalm 126:2. "Then they said among the nations, 'The Lord has done wonderful things for them.’" (Bible). When alluding to a shift in individuals, David uses "laughter" and "joy." God desires for everyone to laugh, which is why Christians should watch The Big Bang Theory.

The Big Bang Theory is a lighthearted source of amusement that boosts one’s emotions. Christians should watch The Big Bang Theory not just for its evolutionist viewpoint but also for how it encourages binge drinking.

In several episodes of The Big Bang Theory, characters drink excessively, resulting in intoxication. Raj is a guy who has a difficult time speaking in front of ladies. When he’s drunk, though, he can have a conversation with ladies. However, getting intoxicated is not an excellent way to honour God. Christians are specifically commanded not to get inebriated.

"Do not become intoxicated on wine, which leads to debauchery," the Bible warns in Ephesians 5:18. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit," says the Bible (Bible). A Christian may understand how God does not want His children to get inebriated by reading this text. Although one might argue that every kind of alcohol is a sin, the Bible only mentions intoxication as a sin.

Christians should refrain from alcohol if they are not strong enough to quit drinking before they get inebriated. This program should be avoided by Christians who disapprove of intoxication.

Many things in The Big Bang Theory do not honour God, and Christians should take none of them lightly. The last reason why Christians should watch The Big Bang Theory is that it intriguingly portrays Christianity. Christians are described in various ways, and this program tends to represent them in a bad light. The Big Bang Theory, on the other hand, has a valid point of view on Christianity.

Christians are shown in The Big Bang Theory as stiff, closed-minded, judgmental, self-righteous, and hypocritical. A website named www. Metacritic. Org likewise has a lousy attitude about Christians. Still, they believe that the Big Bang Theory handled Christianity "inappropriately... (and that it) suggested a degree of pushiness and insensitivity" in its portrayal of Christianity (TheTvCritic). The unfortunate issue is that Christians may be guilty of hypocrisy and other bad characteristics.

That is why Christians must comprehend how non-Christians see them. So that they may be the people Christ intended for them to be, God never claimed the world would embrace Christians, or that life would be simple for them.

He did encourage Christians to speak up for what is good, but He did not want them to be so widespread. God has called everyone to love one another. In one episode, Sheldon’s mother visits and takes the whole family on a church tour. Sheldon’s mother claims to be a "devout" Christian (CBS). She, on the other hand, denigrates everyone and places herself on a pedestal of superiority.

Many Christians were upset by this episode, but Christians can instead utilize this secular perspective of Christianity as a learning tool and source of personal development in how not to behave in their own lives.

Matthew 7:5 is an important verse for Christians to remember. “You hypocrite, remove the plank from your own eye first, and then you will be able to see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. ” (Bible).

This is a verse that all Christians should remember to keep them humble, kind, grace-filled, and gentle. That is why, although viewing programs like The Big Bang Theory is not always simple or enjoyable for Christians, it is essential in order to maintain a realistic perspective on the world. Sexual immorality is another frequent event on which the program seems unconcerned.

In several episodes of The Big Bang Theory, sexual themes are discussed or immoral intercourse occurs. Coitus is a term used to describe a sexual act. Two characters, Leonard and Penny, have had an intriguing sex connection over the six seasons.

Since Leonard and Penny are not married, Christians should oppose this kind of sexual activity. “Flee from sexual immorality and all other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually sins against their own body,” the Bible states in 1 Corinthians 6:18. (Bible).

This kind of conduct is neither moral or edifying to God, as a Christian may see here. This is why Christians should avoid watching The Big Bang Theory because they would be endorsing such acts if they did. All of these are compelling reasons for Christians to tune in to The Big Bang Theory.

The socially uncomfortable nerdy lives of the characters will inspire Christians to look outside of themselves and develop in order to reach out to the misfits.

Their day will be brightened by the comedy, and they will be able to appreciate the little things that God has provided. Most importantly, Christians will be aware of how the rest of the world perceives them.

That they must really love people for who they are and where they are in order to have a greater influence on the world. Christians should see this program; they may be astonished by what fresh ideas they come away.
